Sulfide Family
Sulfide minerals are a family of minerals with sulfur combined with one or more metal. Sulfides are important indicator minerals of metal deposits.
Sulfides used in jewelry include:
Iron Pyrite - Iron and sulfur a brassy colored brittle mineral
Marcasite - Iron and sulfur but a lighter and white colored brittle mineral
Chalcopyrite - Copper, iron and sulfur in a common sulfide in many metal veins.
Bornite - Copper, iron and sulfur in a less common colorful sulfide
Covellite - Copper and sulfur in a simple and rare combination.
