We love your enthusiasm (trust us—we get it), but before you go sprinting down the sand with your pockets ready and your eyes sparkling, let’s get a few things straight.
Yes—thanks to Oregon’s amazing Beach Bill, our beaches are public and open for everyone to enjoy. But that doesn’t mean it’s a free-for-all. There are a few important rules that keep our coast safe, protected, and accessible for generations of beachcombers to come.
Here’s the quick lowdown:
🚫 Don’t trespass to get to a beach. Public beaches are public—but the land getting to them might not be. Be respectful.
🧑⚖️ No commercial collecting. Oregon law allows you to gather small amounts of natural treasures for personal use, not for resale.
🪨 Leave the cliffs and bedrock alone. No digging, hammering, or prying from the actual geology. It’s not just illegal—it’s dangerous and damaging.
We believe in collecting responsibly, treading lightly, and always leaving things better than we found them. 💚
Thanks for being part of the good vibes, kind hands, and respectful rockhounding community. You’re our kind of people.🫶
Ok NOW that we got those details out of the way....

🗓️ Best Time to Visit for Rockhounding the Oregon Coast
Grateful for earth’s little wonders — this agate carries the sea’s story in every swirl
💎 Rockhounding is great year-round, but the BEST seasons and times are:
✔ Late Fall, Winter & Early Spring – When storm surges, rain pouring down and gusty winds erode our beaches and uncover fresh treasures
✔ After High Tides & Rainy Coastal Storms – Time for the sand gentle summer weather piles on our beaches to wash away, leaving beautiful agates, jaspers, petrified wood pieces, crystals and fossils revealed for you to find
✔ As the Tide is Falling – Sometimes if you wait until low tide you are late! You can typically start a few hours after high tide on most beaches
⚠️ Don’t Become a Statistic—Check the Weather and Tides
Look, we love adventure as much as the next rockhound, but showing up to a stormy beach at high tide during a storm is a great way to ruin your day (or your shoes). Seriously—check the weather and check the tides before heading out.
💨 A surprise squall or surging tide isn’t just inconvenient—it’s dangerous. 🌊 Outgoing tides after storms are your golden hour for finding agates, fossils, and petrified wood.
